Report: OMV CEO says Austria unable to stop using Russian gas

VIENNA, Apr 1 (PRIME) -- Austria is unable to stop using Russian gas without huge consequences, CEO of Austrian energy company OMV Alfred Stern said in an interview with Presse newspaper released on Friday.

“No, it is impossible to withdraw from using Russian gas if we are not ready to accept huge consequences. Some states can do it, but for Austria it is impossible this year. We are in a difficult state, we just cannot get rid of Russian gas,” he said.

“Any diversification will mean larger investment in expensive infrastructure to get access to more expensive gas. Withdrawal from Russian gas has its cost. We should understand it clearly,” he added.
